Voices of Experience is an after school educational program that features accomplished women role models from diverse backgrounds speaking about their lives, education and careers. The program includes a presentation by the role models, open-mic session, and reception with pizza and cookies. Four women will share stories about how they overcame challenges to achieve their goals. The girls will then be encouraged to ask questions and share their stories through an open mike session.

Voices of Experience focuses on “life experience” for girls. Through this program, the Women’s Foundation of Genesee Valley emphasizes the importance of a woman having an education and/or the skills to take care of herself financially.

Here is what some of the girls had to say about the program:

  • I was inspired, I cried, it was touching, I am not alone, we are not alone.
  • I was inspired by all of the stories, they opened my eyes and heart and I can do anything I set myself to do.
  • Thank you for helping us to find our voices and inspire each other.
  • This program was simply amazing.
  • Keep doing what you guys are doing; you rock!

The Women’s Foundation sincerely thanks the role models, volunteers and the supporters (see sidebar) for helping to support Voices of Experience.

Established in 1997, the program has reached over 4,000 girls to help empower and inspire them to achieve economic self-sufficiency and to reach their full potential.
